Artists, Models, and Other Creatively-Wired Individuals,
We are putting together a group of people interested in honing their life drawing and/or modeling skills.

MODELS:
We value diversity so all types of models are encouraged to join regardless of sex, gender, ethnicity, body type. Ideally we would have a good mix of different kinds of models as well as artists
Sundays: 11:00 AM-8:00 PM

Ideally we would like to have a sizable group or groups that meet regularly so that we can make it worthwhile for everyone involved.

If you are interested please let me know:
1. If you are a model, artist, or both
2. You schedule preferences

If you know other people that might be interested please pass this along to them. If you have any further questions please contact me at my email or tribe.
About Lapata:
Lapata (pronounced ‘láh-putt-áh’), the artist's takhallus, or alias, is Urdu for “missing,” or “absconded,” as in “my luggage is missing,” or “the bandits have absconded.”
She also writes for the blog Chapati Mystery and posts many of her paintings there.
Lapata grew up in a family of artists in western Massachusetts, some whose work adorns the surfaces of chinaware and
brightens up the waiting rooms of dentists’ offices, and others whose artistic output has found more select audiences.
From 1992-2006, Lapata made a foray into Academia and ended up with a PhD in South Asian literature, a phase about which the less said, the better.

Calling ALL Artists For The 4th Annual Art Outside Brouhaha! March 6th – 16th 2008.
To take part in AO|08 Go Here- http://www.artoutside.org/

Ladies and gentlemen of the art world, we are seeking any and all creative humans who use their skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others. That is, we are looking for those whose life is art, and everything they do is DIY. We are searching for those who are creating the Hand-Made Nation. We are calling !ALL! make-believers, dreamers and reality re-arrangers. We are searching hi and low for lowbrow-urban-contemporary-pop-surrealism, pop art, op art, hard-edge, lyrical abstraction, post minimalism, which might be interpreted by some to mean that we are looking only for painters, but that is most definitely not the case. For you see, of course, we need masters of typography, sketchers, illustrators, satirical stencilers, screen printing is way cool, and yes, you too, graffiti fools. Least we forget every culture jammer in the hood. Do you manipulate earth/land/sand/plants/junk into art? Then we have a home for you.

Now, we know some of you may be thinking “What about Dadas’ Dadaists, though?” To this we say, but of course we are calling all inspired by DADA- for where would art be without fluxists, productivism, neoplasticism, pittura, metafisica, arbeitsrat and bauhaus. Well, we are looking for all of “you” from then and now, if any of you still are around. And one may wonder… What about the cubists? We say, “But of course.” Conceptualists? Indeed. Installationists? Please! One might ask if we are seeking anything that might fall under postmodernist modernist who are not distracted by abstractionists and other IST’S. Of course there is always impressionism, post-minimalism, pre-contemporaryism, and expressionism. Are you working in symbolism or surrealism or any of the other -isms that we have not yet mentioned? Well come on out. But wait that’s not all, that could not possibly be all this call for ARTE is all about? Well, Dali you’re right,

This call goes out to all kinetic sculptors, fire sculptors, sound artists bending invisible waves, and video projectionists playing with light. We must invite the minds of the poets and their spoken slam voices, along with improv comedians who mimic the true history of time. Or was that the klown? How can we forget about the klowns! Mimes? Performers “performing” art, puppeteers with their puppets, musicians making sounds. Oh, and least we forget outsider artists wanting to be outside.

In short, we invite all the conceivable movements, modes, and theories of art known to wo/man kind. We say to you, the Artisans of the world who wish to unite because the world needs ART, because the world’s not right. It is time, Your window of opportunity is now. Our space is your blank canvas. Your dreams are our inspiration. You and your art are invited to take part in this epic artistic endeavor.

The world may be going to hell… So let’s make some art.

Thank you for your interest to our music.

Last summer we held a throat singing camp in Tuva.

We had 14 students from around the world - 8 of them were from the US, 2 from Australia
2 from Denmark, 1 from France, 1 from England.
After arriving in Tuva, the students spent 1 week in Kyzyl, the capital city.
They were able to see many tourist attractions, see a Tuvan shaman,
and attend the Naadym - National Harvest Celebration.

The students then went on to spend 1 week in the deep taiga, with members of the Tuvan throat singing group Chirgilchin,
learning various styles of throat singing, traditional Tuvan instruments, as well as the Tuvan language.

This summer, we are trying to get 2 groups to go to Tuva again, in either June or July.

NUDE AID: Erotica Art Making and Give Away Event

Held this year at the Design District's beautiful club Mighty! Here's how the Nude Aid art-making and giveaway event works: Admission to Nude Aid is $20-40 (sliding scale). This entitles each guest to watch as artists make art, live, with live nearly-nude and fetish-clad models to inspire them. Each guest can choose a piece of art to take home, and may purchase additional tickets (also $20-40) to trade for additional paintings, drawings, photos, sculptures, collages, or body prints. Guests can also cover holiday shopping needs by purchasing more art and desirables from Nude Aid's silent auction.

Mighty's cash bar will be open, "whores d'oeuvres" served, DJs will spin, and occasional stage performances will liven the event.

Nude Aid will take place on Sunday, December 9th. Doors open at 5 and close at 9.

Last year's Nude Aid was the Center for Sex & Culture's single most successful benefit. Donors, models, artists and special guests from Nude Aid 2007 included Leonard Nimoy, Annie Sprinkle, Candye Kane, Charles Gatewood, Nina Hartley, Eric Kroll, Sharon Mitchell, Candida Royalle, Winston Smith, Jonathan Solo, Scarlot Harlot, Ruby Pearl, Madison Young, Jennifer Blowdryer, Isis Starr, Melissa Gira, Gloria Leonard, David Steinberg, Matt Sachs, and many more! Nude Aid's 2008 lineup will be announced shortly; for a frequently-updated listing of artists, donors, performers and other participants please come back to see the Events page at wwwsexandculture.org.

Nude Aid is again being produced by erotic writer and burlesque performer Lady Monster, who has just returned from a tour with Leonard Nimoy.

Do you want to make or donate art, model, volunteer to help run the event, or otherwise become involved with Nude Aid? Get in touch by emailing carol@sexandculture.org or calling 415-255-1155.

When: December 9, 2007; doors 5-9 pm
Where: Club Mighty www.mighty119.com -- 119 Utah St, San Francisco - (415) 626-7001
How much: $20-40 sliding scale -- admission entitles guests to take one piece of art.
More info: Over 21 only, please. Cash bar available.
Easy parking in the neighborhood; public transit on MUNI line #9 (get off at Potrero and Alameda)
CSC can accept VISA, MasterCard and Discover.

Spread the word, especially if you know anyone who'd like to participate.

NUDE AID CALL FOR ARTISTS AND VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS:
We need YOU to make this benefit a success!

*Seeking artists to participate by making art onsite, water-based media only please. You can paint/draw our fabulous live models...

or just make sexy art as the spirit moves you, with collage or any other medium that will be clean-up-able. (If you are not in a position to donate your art materials but otherwise would love to do this, talk to us. We will seek material donations so starving artists will not have out-of-pocket expenses.) Please be prepared to make 20 or more pieces to give away. AND/OR... donate to our silent auction!

Artists, please RSVP soon so we can put your name on our press materials. We'd love to get you some well-deserved attention!

*Seeking fabulous volunteers to model, set up, make whores d'ouevres, work the door, clean up, post flyers and postcards, and more! Please let us know if you'd like to help out. Models CAN be nude, or in a state of undress or dressed in fetish gear. Wear something (or not) to inspire your artists (and the other voyeurs!).

Over 21 only, please. Cash bar available. Easy parking in the neighborhood; public transit on lines [X]

Artists make art (from live models) before your eyes; take a piece of art home (included in price of admission)! Additional tickets to trade for additional pieces of art can be purchased.

*Seeking generous local businesses to donate items for our silent auction. The Center for Sex and Culture is a 501(c)(3) educational organization. Should your donation qualify, you can receive a letter regarding your tax-deductible donation.

For more details about the Center for Sex and Culture please sign up for twice-monthly mailings, donate, or peruse the events calendar at: www.sexandculture.org.

A photographic exhibit by Chris English in association with Citadel, (http://sfcitadel.org).

The show will run from October through December 2007 and there will be a Gala Opening on Sunday, Oct 21, from 3pm - 6pm.

For several years now I have been shooting the fabulous and gorgeous live models who grace the front windows of the Dark Garden Corsetry, (http://darkgarden.com), booth at the Dickens Fair, (http://dickensfair.com). I occasionally take a paraphelia shot - a picture of a boot, or a glove or the like.

In fall of 2006, I walked up to the window to shoot a picture of a model's boot, (and her single tail whip), and what with standing not two feet away from her, albeit separated by a pane of glass, I found myself embarrassed to be so obviously shooting her boot.

I noticed my embarrassment, backed up for a few seconds, and then proceeded to shoot the boot anyway. But the experience got me to thinking about how it's socially acceptable to shoot some parts of a person but not other parts and how shooting certain parts can be perceived as offensive.

So I challenged myself to take at least one shot of each model that did not include her eyes. The photographs included in this show are the result of that self challenge.

Stealing Time: Making Art in the Time Between
Root Division
3175 17th st
Instructor: Michelle Townsend
6 class meetings
Time: 7-10 pm
Tuition: $150
While many creative people--artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers-- pursue these professions full-time, others choose career paths that allow for greater financial stability, often postponing or abandoning their artistic aspirations in the process. This class helps would-be artists kick-start or rediscover their creative pursuits by providing the tools to begin and maintain regular artistic practice. An equally important goal of Stealing Time is each student's development and completion of a self-designed project. The class will meet for 6 sessions over a 9-week period. During the gaps between meetings, students will work on their projects independently, developing the habits they'll employ after the course concludes.

Students should bring to class the kernel of an idea they wish to develop, as well as a willingness to engage their peers in meaningful dialogue. The course is open visual artists, writers, and musicians, as well as those who have a creative itch to scratch but haven't yet chosen a medium.

This salon is part of the lead-in for an astounding event happening at SomArts that weekend, designed to bring artists, musicians, and the people who make it all happen together to meet each other and talk about their work. At CELLSpace we will have an art show in the gallery, puppetry and sewing workshops in the loft, musicians, free drinks and food, and panel discussions. The discussions will revolve around the ideas of producing arts, media, and change from a non-profit and for-profit perspective. What are the benefits of each format? How can artists navigate the world between the two for maximum freedom and maximum funding? Bay Area heavies from both sides of the fence will discuss why they have chosen the structure that they have and how they use it to get what they want.

BREAKING NEWS - CELLspace is facing massive crisis and needs your help! We will give the microphone to someone from the organization who can tell you all about what is going on and how you can get involved. Get your news fresh from the trenches. We love this community resource and want to fight to keep it! http://pandorastrunk.com http://artsandmedia.net/expo

Greetings Friends, Family, and Co-conspirators,

The Greenhouse Project is about to make its way halfway across the country to Burning Man. It's an exciting time, the Project is drawing attention from people nation wide and will be included in a little documentary vignette that will air on Sundance. We've got great placement, and if you're going to be in Black Rock City, be sure and stop by. We'll be 1900' from the Man, near the Temple. We're leaving Aug 21, and until then, I'm working feverishly on making this installation something we can all be proud of. And I need your help!

*******************************************************************

These are the things I need most urgently to make it happen:

*ART! of all mediums (exploring concepts of growth/decay, natural cycles & phenomena, birth/life/death, etc., recycled & found objects highly encouraged)

*Offerings and sacrifices (What would you offer your future/present/past self in order to heal/create/bless your own life? What would you give the earth to symbolize your commitment to creating a greener world? What gift would you give to show gratitude for all that you have and all that you will become?)

*Natural found objects -- shells, rocks, plants, bones, dirt, water, etc. (any loose materials should be put in jars or other sealed containers so as not to create a MOOP hazard (matter out of place) I have a few jars/containers on hand we can use for this purpose).

*Fabrics (exotic, sheer, animal skin/fur/leather (faux or recycled real))

*Lights! (of all colors and kinds -- rope light, xmas lights, LEDs, clamp lights, etc etc etc). Muy importante!

*Paint (acrylic preferred, but I'll take what I can get) brushes, and permanent markers

And these are the things I also need and am prepared to buy unless someone gifts or loans them to me:

*2 or 3 Deep cycle marine batteries 12V
*Solar panel(s) to charge batteries
*Sturdy plastic bins to pack stuff in

*********************************************************************

If you have donations to make, you can check out the Project in progress -- in person!-- and drop them off at my home in South Austin. I welcome individuals and groups of visitors who wish to see the Project before it heads to BM. Please call or email for directions and to coordinate times. If you have trouble getting to South Austin, we can try to meet somewhere more central if that works better for you.

And if you feel compelled to contribute but don't have any of the stuff on the wishlist, we'd gladly take money donations to help offset building and transportation costs. I'd love to see you in person too, but in case you can't make it to my house, you can make a donation through Paypal. My Paypal acct is under lauraleanalle@gmail.com Every dollar helps!

You can also track the progress of the Greenhouse Project from the comfort of your own home. Here: http://lauraleanalle.livejournal.com/ and here: http://people.tribe.net/earth2LL

*********************************************************************

And let me conclude by saying how thankful I am for the overwhelming amount of support and encouragement and love I have received from many of you individually and the community as a whole. This has been one of the most unbelievable experiences of my life thanks to all of you who have lent support in both big and little ways. I am filled with so much love and gratitude for everything everyone has done and said. It's really just beautiful way beyond belief or anything I could have ever imagined. So, I thank you, thank you, thank you!

With Love and Light (and paint all over me),

I am starting to organize a story that is a morality play or sorts for my 6 year old Godson, whom I coparent. It will include a yound man setting off in the world and encountering archetypal beings and situations that engage him and end up teaching him somthing essential about living a fulfilling life. the main character will be discussing these situations and beings with a wise person from time to time. I am an artist. You can see some of my work on my profile pics. I will be doing a photo shoot (B&W infrareds) for every chapter in the story. I will be compiling the story and images into a small, hand bound book. I'l make about 100 editions of the book.

What I need help on is the story:
* What do you think the most important things are to learn and integrate to live a fulfilling life?
* What are the best ways to deal with disapointment and loss, with death?
* What are the most essential archetypal situations that teach us the most about living a fulfilling life?
* What archetypal characters teach us the most about living a connected, passionate, and loving life?
* What situations would you create to teach the main Character the foundations of a connected, passionate, and loving life?

Any ideas will be most appreciated.

I live in Austin, so this is impractical, though I've been known to hop on a plane for stuff like that, but not tomorrow. Maybe next month. Anyways, anyone willing to burn a disc with a few of my images on it and take it down there?

Juxtapoz Magazine, Upper Playground & ArtNowSF present:

GET EXPOSED!

Everyone's always asking us, "How can I get my art in the magazine?" Finally, we have an answer!

Come to 111 Minna on Saturday, June 9th, bring a compact disc with five HIGH-QUALITY images of your best artwork, cross your fingers, grab a beverage, and hang out. One person from each month's event will be included as an Artist Profile in an upcoming issue of Juxtapoz Art & Culture Magazine. At the end of our run, we will have a show at 111 Minna featuring our favorites from the submitted works.

You must submit in person at the event. You may have a friend submit your artwork, but if you are selected, you must be able to attend the final show in San Francisco. Note: We ask that you do not submit original artwork.

The party starts at 9pm... get there before 11pm and pay only $5, $10 after. 111 Minna is a drinky-drinking kinda place so you must be 21+ and you must bring your ID.
