affordable live/work space?

Hi... I'm planning to move to the bay area soon, and am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for affordable live/work space. Anything works for me... warehouse space, communal space. Otherwise, just a creative household. If anyone knows of anything available, or just advice as to where to look, it would be helpful. Thanks.

    Ha Ha ha .........Good one!

    First you sell your soul!

Instead of Welcome to California you get Dantes Inscription at the gates of hell.

Per me si va ne la città dolente,
per me si va ne l'etterno dolore,
per me si va tra la perduta gente.
Giustizia mosse il mio alto fattore:
    fecemi la divina podestate,
la somma sapienza e 'l primo amore.
Dinanzi a me non fuor cose create
se non etterne, e io etterno duro.
    Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate

Then you have to stand behind 100 yuppies that want the same thing.
And a thousand burners that expect the same thing.
And we can't forget the Indie bands that want space.............
The Entitlement issues alone will make you gag.

Don't even think about free parking.

Exio, don't be discouraged by folks telling you it's impossible or outright mock you. Everyone says it's tough to find a place but it's not always so. It all depends on the friends you make when you get here and the ones you do before hand. Start checking in with local arts organizations, message boards and online spaces, just like tribe. You'll run into folks that will get you on your way.

    - yerba buena center for the arts
    - cellspace
    - the crucible
    - laughing squid
    - craigslist

These are just a start. Do lots of research and utilize every opportunity to network in a friendly and approachable way. There are not only tons of arts organizations here but also art collectives and communes. You can find what you're looking for, just don't pile on a bunch of uinrealistic expectations, be cool and you'll do just fine.

    Best.
